DVT is a potentially serious condition. If not treated, the blood clot can travel to the lung and cause a pulmonary embolism, which could be life threatening. Blood clots kill millions of hospital patients across the world. In the US, about 2 million patients have DVT and some 200,000 hospital patients die of DVT each year.
